LCD TV shipments to the Taiwan market grew 5%in 2012, with local brand vendor Sampo coming in first at 210,000 shipments, according to market observers.
Roughly 1.2 million flat-screen TVs were sold in Taiwan during 2012. Sampo was able to beat out LG Electronics, which sold 200,000 units, as well as Chimei, which sold approximately 183,000 units. In terms of sales value, Sony was number one, the observers said.
Market observers attribute the TV growth within Taiwan largely to energy-saving subsidies issued by Taiwan's government that lasted approximately three months throughout summer of 2012.
