The production value of Taiwan's semiconductor industry could grow by 11.1 percent over the year on solid demand for consumer electronics in China, a government-sponsored research report predicted Monday.
The state-funded Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center estimated output for the local semiconductor industry will total NT$2.1 trillion (US$69.3 billion) this year thanks to the expanding integrated circuit (IC) design sector, which is expected to see a 12.8 percent increase to NT$542.5 billion.
IC manufacturing output, meanwhile, is estimated to grow by 11.5 percent to NT$1.11 trillion, while IC packaging and IC testing could grow by 8.2 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively.
In 2013, Taiwan's semiconductor industry saw output rise 15.6 percent year-on-year to NT$1.89 trillion. IC manufacturing recorded the highest growth of the sub-sectors at 20.2 percent to total NT$996.5 billion, the report said.
Over the same period, IC design output increased 16.9 percent to NT$481.1 billion , while IC packaging and IC testing output were up 4.6 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively, the center's statistics showed.
