The Central Taiwan Innovation and Research Park in Nantou County was inaugurated Sept. 15 by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, with overall investments and revenues projected at NT$15 billion (US$500 million) and NT$60 billion, respectively, by 2025.

“As a major link in the government’s i-Taiwan 12 Projects, the park will connect with similar R&D hotspots in neighboring Chiayi and Tainan counties to form an industrial innovation corridor,” MOEA Minister Duh Tyzz-jiun said.

“The 2.47-hectare innovation and research facility will improve the nation’s capabilities in advanced greenhouse engineering, industrial design services and next-generation smart machinery technologies.”

The Industrial Technology Research Institute and Institute for Information Industry, two of Taiwan’s most prestigious research institutes, have set up branches in the park and will spearhead industrial R&D regionwide, Duh said.

With an NT$2.2 billion investment over three years, the park boasts state-of-the-art buildings constructed in accordance with green architecture principles. Featuring a 140-kilowatt sloped-roof solar energy system, the facility is also the first in Taiwan to hold diamond-grade green architecture and smart building candidate certificates.

The greater Taichung metropolitan area is the nation’s hub for bicycle, machine tool and precision machinery industries, Duh said. He expects the park to integrate regional capabilities and transform central Taiwan into a world-class industry cluster.
