Imagine waking up in the morning and making your own clothes before you step foot out the door. With Electroloom, the world’s first 3D fabric printer, that is now possible. This innovative machine creates fabric using liquid that is sprayed onto moulds.
As we already reported in our look at Sci-Fi technology in fashion earlier this year, the idea came from a gang of entrepreneurs after working at California Polytechnic State University. This unique process of creating fabric from scratch is called electrospinning, as the aforementioned liquids are transformed into small fibers that are then sprayed on to moulds and gathered together thanks to an electrical field that is created inside of the machine. Currently, the Electroloom has crafted tank tops, skirts, and hats, but you can seemingly make anything you design.
For their Kickstarter campaign, they are urging individuals to donate and in turn become a beta tester to improve the product. Those who pledge at the highest level will be awarded their own machine and can start creating fabric of their own.
