Global wind turbine inspection services market growth

Oct 20, 2015

In the US, Transparency Market Research (TMR), a market intelligence company, earlier this week released their report on the "Wind Turbine Inspection Services Market - Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Trends, Analysis, Growth and Forecast 2015 - 2023".

According to the report, the global wind turbine inspection services market has been gaining momentum due to the growing wind energy capacity across the globe.

A wind turbine is a complex piece of machinery that depends on capacity utilisation. Thus, any amount of downtime due to unplanned maintenance can lead to a huge loss for the operator, states TMR.

The turbine is the most important and the most expensive part of a wind power generation unit. It includes several smaller parts such as generator system, the gearbox, generator package, and rotor blades, which are susceptible to breakages.

Growth of inspection services

Analysts have observed that growth of the wind turbine inspection services market will prove to be an important support to the wind energy market in the coming future, states TMR.

As the wind energy market grows with incentives such as feed-in-tariffs, the wind turbine inspection services market is also expected to witness a huge growth rate.

The two broad segmentations of the global wind turbine inspection services market are formed on the basis of types of defects and geography.

These include overload defects, external pollution, phase defects, mechanical defects, and insulation defects.

The report indicates that the global wind turbine inspection services market is expecting positive growth in the Asia Pacific region and in the emerging economies in the Middle East and Africa and South and Central America.

North America and Europe

On the other hand, the report analysis shows that the market is likely to be sluggish in North America and Europe, as the wind energy markets in these regions are reaching maturity.

This slowdown can be attributed to the retraction of incentive schemes in North America and the economic crisis in Europe.

However, offshore wind turbine inspection services will witness a surge in demand from Europe, as the region is trying to develop its offshore wind energy capacity.

Although the US has been rather slow to enter the offshore wind energy market, the number of installations in the country is expected to pick up in the future. By 2023, the wind energy capacity in the US is likely to double from the present level.

Industry players

TMR states that the players in the global wind turbine inspection services market are Intertek Group, Technical Wind Services, UpWind Solutions, Cenergy International Services, INVISO Services, ASC Engineering Service, UL International, MISTRAS Group, Advanced Cleaning Technology, MFG Energy Services, and Midwest Underground Technology, to name a few.
