Samsung Electronics to Release 4x Faster MicroSD Card

Samsung Electronics will release a new microSD memory card that will be up to four times faster than existing products, targeting the premium memory card market.

The company announced on Dec. 16 that it will release the Pro Plus 128 GB microSD memory card in 50 countries around the world, including the U.S., Korea, China and Germany, starting this month. This product is the newest addition to Samsung’s Pro Plus line-up, and comes just six months after Samsung introduced the 32 GB and 64 GB versions in May.

The latest version delivers the highest speed and storage capacity currently available today, offering read and write speeds of up to 90 MB/s, which are four times faster than existing products. It also features UHD Speed Class 3 (U3), which is required in 4K UHD video recording.

Since 4K UHD video needs four times the capacity of existing full HD videos, it requires faster write speeds in order to record and save UHD videos at the same time. It is hard to record smoothly without products with the speed of U3 levels.
