Warren East expects 10-20% of notebook market.

May 21, 2012

Warren East, CEO of Arm, told Dow Jones yesterday that he expects Intel chips to get into 5-10% of the smartphone market in a few years and that ARM chips will take a 10-20% share of the notebook market in three years time.

East called Intel's first announced phone produced by an Idian company as "perfectlyadequate" and described Intel's position as a phone chip supplier as "perfectly credible."

Qualcomm recently described Intel's latest chip for phones as 'the product of desperation rather than inspiration.'

Intel says it will not be putting its phone chips to the front of a process node, I.e. being made on its latest process as soon as it becomes available, until the 14nm node expected in 2014.
