A machinery expo, organised by the State Department of Industries and Commerce, will be inaugurated at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kaloor, by A.C. Moideen, Minister for Industries, at 11 a.m. on Friday. There will be 135 stalls at the expo, which will focus on areas such as food processing, electricals and electronics, packaging and wood-based industries, said an official of the Industries Department.

There will be 15 institutions from North India and 36 from South India, including Kerala, at the four-day exhibition, said the official. He said that rubber-based industries, Ayurveda, waste management and general engineering would also be focus areas. It will be an opportunity for industrial units to get a first-hand idea of the latest in machinery availability, the official said.

Several institutions, including the Plywood Research Institute, are part of the expo that will be open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Central and State governments are jointly conducting a free Zero Defect Zero Effect registration camp at Kaloor during the expo from Friday. This is a free registration camp for all the manufacturing industrial units in Kerala.

The facility is available at stall 103 and the aim of the programme is to grant an opportunity to MSMEs on the ZED Certification Scheme of the government of India and guide them to register for the programme. Registration for the ZED scheme is free for the first 22,222 manufacturing MSMEs.

In order to enhance the competitiveness of Indian MSMEs and make India a global manufacturing hub, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched financial support to MSMEs in the ZED certification scheme of the Union Ministry of MSMEs.

The objective of the initiative is to popularised responsible manufacturing amongst mcro, small and medium enterprises, the press release said.
