At a special third show day press briefing TAITRA Executive Vice President Walter Yeh revealed that a total of 32 motor yachts and sailing boats have been sold during the show which has generated transactions worth NT$1 billion. And with 30 more yacht post-show sales in the making, Taiwan International Boast Show is expected to create business exceeding NT$5.2 billion.
The first three days of Taiwan International Boat Show welcomed more than 45,000 visitors, including more than 2,000 oversea buyers, including those from China, the U.S., Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore. Show floor business is hot with transactions. Taiwan yacht-builders like Horizon Yachts, Kha Shing Ent., Global Yacht Builders, Bluewater Yacht Builders, Corum Yachts, Hsing Hang Marine, Tayana Yachts and Johnson Yachts have all secured major orders.
Swedish yacht-builder Delta commented that it is confident that exhibiting at the Taiwan International Boat Show will help Delta to develop the Taiwanese yacht market, and noted that it is already negotiating several potential orders.
More than half of the orders that have been placed at the show have been signed by domestic buyers, Walter Yeh noted. He pointed to the huge potential on the Taiwan market. It has only about 100 licensed yachts in contrast with 1 million yachts in Australia that has roughly the same population. Many of the domestic buyers who ordered “entry-level” small or medium-sized yachts at this show can be expected to upgrade to larger yachts in the future, said Yeh.
Statistics compiled by international yacht-builders suggest that every dollar spent on yacht purchasing creates seven dollars’ worth of peripheral business opportunities in industries such as tourism (including restaurant and hotel operation), marina services, engine maintenance and repair.
When the available peripheral services are showcased in an exhibition, the results achieved – in terms of business opportunities created – can be further enhanced. As such, Yeh explained, there was huge potential on the Taiwanese yacht market that beckoned manifold development potential in related areas such as marinas and yacht clubs.
Japanese buyer Yoshiro Hirayu, who purchased the largest yacht at the Show (which cost NT $330 million to build), commented that he was very impressed by the quality of Taiwan-built yachts, and had already, purchased three of them; Mr. Hirayu said that the enthusiasm shown by the Kaohsiung citizens visiting the show had left a lasting impression on him.
Meanwhile, Andrea Razeto, Vice President of UCINA (the Italian Marine Industry Association), said that he was very impressed that Taiwan has managed to get everything right with its first-ever yacht show. Foreign buyers praised its planning, organization and considerate service. In fact, many felt this to be the “classiest” yacht show in Asia.
The Taiwan International Boat Show is currently being held in the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. Tomorrow is the show’s closing day, so anyone wishing to visit Taiwan Boat should use this opportunity.
