Japan’s largest IT show “Japan IT Week Spring”records 10% rise in scale and boosted international participation

Reed Exhibitions Japan, the organiser of Japan’s largest comprehensive B-to-B IT industry event Japan IT Week held the 24th edition of the show last week in Tokyo.

83,683 professional visitors from the IT field participated to seek multiple solutions for business and opportunities to share the latest technology and industry trends. From embedded systems, IoT technologies, latest security solutions in preparation for Japan’s new social security and tax identity system, cloud computing services for connective technologies, Big Data solutions, technologies for growing e-commerce market, innovative mobile applications…various exhibits for business were showcased by 1,487 exhibitors from 19 countries stretched across 12 specialised exhibitions.

The total scale of Japan IT Week Spring expanded by 10% accounted for by the addition of a new show CONSUMER IT PRODUCTS EXPO (C-PEX) and the growth of each of the exhibitions, especially IoT/M2M EXPO, INFORMATION SECURITY EXPO, WEB & DIGITAL MARKETING EXPO, DATA STORAGE EXPO.

Connective technologies and international business expands

The technology has been advancing but with innovation comes complexity and there is growing need to control and manage all the information generated. Japan IT Week Spring in its 24 years running has provided a comprehensive platform for business but as technologies such as IoT, connectivity is converging towards real and solid business and thus requirements for information security, management systems becomes larger, the show’s comprehensive nature allowing participants to seek multiple solutions and partnerships through the 12 exhibitions is really becoming of indispensable quality. Portraying the needs of the industry, the show has been growing in scale as well as becoming diversified.

Numerous members of diet member caucus made an attendance to the show and the representative made an opening speech at the VIP Reception which gathered more than 300 executives involved in the IoT, M2M, embedded system and related fields.Various foreign associations, governmental bodies participated at the show in order to invest deeper into the Japanese market and also held various conferences and official meetings. A number of countries held national pavilions to illustrate their devotion towards the Japanese market and gathered technologies representing their country. This year INDIA, CHINA, BELGIUM, KOREA, SRI LANKA, VIETNAM, BANGLADESH and PHILIPPINE had pavilions.

Overall the international participation of both exhibitors and visitors for instance have been continually expanding, this year marking a 1.6 fold growth in exhibit space covered by international firms and 1.4 fold increase in international visitor participation.

Latest accessories, smartphones, wearables, related solutions

In a different note, having successfully organised Japan IT Week for 24 years consecutively and other consumer product related shows in the past, Reed Exhibitions Japan had been receiving strong requests from numerous show participants and firms in the consumer IT product business field. In response to such requests a new show CONSUMER IT PRODUCTS EXPO (C-PEX) was launched within Japan IT Week Spring to aid business between cooperate professionals (already a large contribution of the overall visitors of the show) and firms looking to invest in the field of consumer IT products. Exhibits included accessories (tablet/smartphone covers, electric chargers, cables, protective films, OEM of such products etc.), Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), its solutions and finished terminals such as smartphones, tablets, portable PCs etc.

C-PEX is expected to grow even further in coming editions and will contribute to the international diversity of the overall show as this field has high potential for international business.

World-class conference hits record high

91 conference sessions were also held in parallel to the exhibitions with various renowned speakers from top organisations, institutions and associations such as MICROSOFT, GOOGLE, IBM, SALESFORCE, YAHOO, EBAY, AMAZON WEB SERVICE, DELL, ORACLE, INTEL, CISCO SYSTEMS, LAC, UNISYS, SOFTBANK, NISSAN, TOYOTA, RENESAS ELECTRONICS, EMC, FUJITSU, HITACHI, SAP, SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC, VMWARE, ACCENTURE, MINISTRY OF ECONOMY TRADE AND INDUSTRY of Japan, Top universities of the country such as TOKYO UNIVERSITY etc.

Among the 91 sessions held, popular topics were “Next steps in the IoT revolution”, “Future outlook and strategies for IoT business”, “Cloud computing for successful business”, “Big data for IoT” “Native ads” “Content for smartphones and tablets”, “latest security strategies”.

The Japan IT Week Spring Keynote Session was held on the second day of the show welcoming KEN MIYAUCHI, REPRESENTATIVE DIRECTOR, SENIOR EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT of SOFTBANK and MICHAEL RHODIN, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT of IBM WATSON. On the topic of cloud computing and cognitive technology MIYAUCHI delivered a presentation on SOFTBANK’s strategies, vision and impact of incorporating hybrid cloud and cognitive technology to business. RHODIN made a talk on the introduction and future of using cognitive technology in business.
