The 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015 (Organizer: Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc.; Chairman: Fumihiko Ike), which was held from October 29 (Thursday) to November 8 (Sunday) for eleven days at Tokyo Big Sight in Ariake, Koto-ku, closed today at 6 PM on a successful note.
Under the show theme of “Your heart will race.”, 160 companies from 11 countries participated in the show, with a total of 417 vehicles exhibited, including 75 world premieres and 68 Japan premieres, and at the SMART MOBILITY CITY 2015 International Symposium, Chairman Ike of JAMA presented JAMA’s “Automated Driving Vision”.
On October 24 (Saturday), the “60th Anniversary Tokyo Motor Show Parade” was held in commemoration of the 60th year of the Show marked last year with 81 vehicles from the 1950s to the present parading in Tokyo from Hibiya, its birth place. Also, JAMA supported the “Tokyo Motor Festival 2015 with Minmo” held before and during the show, boosting the mood for the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015.
Marking its third installment, “SMART MOBILITY CITY 2015 (SMC2015)”, a themed project undertaken by the organizer under the theme of “With more freedom… Change for cars, Change for Lifestyles, Change for Society.”, not only presented the evolution of Tokyo and its city system looking at 2020 and beyond through exhibits and movies, but with test-rides and conferences as well, allowing visitors to understand easily the mobility society to come, having made it a staple project for the show.
Not only were popular visitor participation events such as “Ride-along Experience with Professional Drivers”, “Motorcycle Test Ride Program”, “Tokyo Motor Show Symposium”, and “Tour of the Tokyo Motor Show Guided by AJAJ” strengthened it but new services such as a shuttle bus service between the East and West Exhibition Halls were operated to further upgrade visitor services. Also, new measures done around the entire Odaiba area such as projection mapping using the Tokyo Big Sight conference tower as a screen contributed to making the area excited and such was one of the many positive factors which added to visitor satisfaction reaching 91.0% (87.3% in 2013) and the percentage of the visitors wanting to return to the next show amounted to 89.2% (86.7% in 2013)
This year’s total attendance during the show period, compared to the last show (The 43rd Tokyo Motor Show 2013: 902,800 people) was 90.0% at 812,500 people. It did not reach the number of the last show which had fair weather throughout the show period, due to bad weather on the closing date, to name a few.
The next show, the 45th Tokyo Motor Show 2017, is planned to be held in autumn of 2017 at the Tokyo Big Sight. Outlines of the show, including the show period, will be announced next spring.
